About HCG+β
Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the placenta shortly after fertilization. It consists of alpha and beta subunits, with the beta subunit being specific to HCG and key to its accurate detection. HCG levels typically double every 72 hours in early pregnancy and peak around weeks 8–11. HCG+β tests are also valuable in detecting abnormal pregnancies or chromosomal disorders.
